Yourself: The Stax Records Story
A history of Stax Records: (More info) http://www.pbs.org/wnet/gperf/shows/stax/index.html
Podcast: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/gperf/shows/podcast.html

| Between 1959 and 1975, Stax Records in Memphis, Tennessee released international chart-topping hits such as
"Soul Man," "Dock of the
Bay," "Green Onions," "Midnight
Hour," "Respect Yourself," and the theme from SHAFT. The label's artists included Otis
Redding, Sam & Dave, Booker T. & the MG's, Rufus and Carla Thomas, the Staple Singers, Isaac Hayes, and
even Richard Pryor and Jesse Jackson. Founded by a white conservative bank teller who played country
fiddle music, Stax became the preeminent soul music label in America, and became identified with the civil rights
movement of the 1960s and '70s. RESPECT YOURSELF documents the Stax label, its visionaries, and most of all, its
music. |

Thu 12/3 12M-All Day Eric Clapton Triple
Play Thursday! http://www.wdrv.com/thursdayartistportrait.php
The consummate rock-blues guitarist, Eric Clapton was an established "rock star"
long before his solo career began in 1970. From the Yardbirds, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith,
Delaney & Bonnie & Friends to Derek and the Dominos, Clapton had proved his mettle as a versatile performer
and a guitar legend before embarking on a solo career that would be just as varied and successful. Edgy and powerful,
reflective and tender, and every emotion in between, the Slowhand helped define entire sub-genres of rock, blues
and folk.
